A-Z: General definitions: Eurystheus

Grandson of Zeus and so great-grandson of Cronos. The setter of the Labours of Heracles. When Heracles was due to be born, his father Zeus boasted that the boy about to be born would be a great and powerful king. Hera heard this, and made Zeus swear that it was true. She then held up the birth of Heracles and made Eurystheus' mother give birth to him early. So Eurystheus became the powerful ruler, not Heracles.
