A-Z: General definitions: Heracles and the Belt of Hippolyte
Definition
The ninth labour of Heracles. Eurystheus wanted the belt of Hippolyte, the queen of the Amazons. She agreed to give it to him, but Hera decided this would be too easy, so she told the other Amazons that Heracles was attacking their queen. Fearing that the queen's agreement had just been a trick, Heracles killed her, and then his men overpowered the Amazon army.
