A-Z: General definitions: Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Definition

In the New Testament book of Revelation the writer (commonly thought to be St John) sees four horses and their riders - the horses are white, red, black and pale, and are often interpreted as symbolizing conquest, bloodshed, famine and death, evils that will occur before the end of all times (Revelation 6:1-8).
