A-Z: General definitions: Julian of Norwich
Definition
(c. 1342-after 1413). An English mystic and anchoress. In 1373 during an illness, she received a series of visions of Christ's Passion and the Trinity which she later recorded.
A person who seeks direct spiritual encounter with God, usually through a life of self-denial and contemplation.
Person leading a solitary life of prayer.
Title (eventually used as name) given to Jesus, refering to an anointed person set apart for a special task such as a king.
The physical and psychological suffering endured by Jesus during the vigil in the Garden of Gethsemane, arrest, trial, scourging and crucifixion.
The Christian Church teaches that God is three persons in one ' Father, Son (Jesus Christ) and Holy Spirit. They share one divine nature and are all involved in the work of creation and salvation.
