Definition
To cheat, dupe or mislead. A person, or character who has been duped (a frequent stock character of Jacobean and Restoration comedies).
A stereotypical character in a play, acting out plot-lines typical of their persona.
Belonging to the reign of James I of England (1603-25)
To replace or put back something which has been lost or damaged. In English history, the term especially applies to the Restoration of the monarchy when King Charles II returned to England in 1660 after 11 years of republican rule.
