Definition

(1469 - 1527) Italian writer and politician  who advocated methods of statecraft which were seen as so devious and cunning that his name became a by-word for craftiness and deceit. He is most famous for writing The Prince, a book which proposes that the end justifies the means in the exercise of effective power.
