Definition

A phrase originating from one of the oldest hymns of the Church, the 'Gloria Patri'. The full words of the hymn are: 'Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.' This hymn is still used today in Christian worship.
