Calvary was the site of Jesus' crucifixion, where he enacted his earlier words that there is no greater love than that a man lay down his life for his friendsThe location, just outside Jerusalem, where according to the New Testament, Jesus is said to have been put to death on a cross.
The name given to the man believed by Christians to be the Son of God. Also given the title Christ, meaning 'anointed one' or Messiah. His life is recorded most fully in the Four Gospels.
Execution by nailing or binding a person to a cross.
In the Gospel of John Jesus said 'greater love has no-one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends'. This was spoken shortly before Jesus died on the cross.
