Definition
A supporter of the movement to restore the Catholic Stuart monarchy to the thrones of England, Scotland and Ireland in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
1. Sometimes used to denote all Christians
2. Used specifically of the Roman Catholic church.
The House of Stuart ruled in Scotland and then in England from James I (James VI of Scotland) in 1603 until the end of the reign of Queen Anne in 1714.
