Definition
Mary, 1516 -1558, Catholic Tudor Queen of England from 1553 until her death. Referred to as Mary Tudor and also as Bloody Mary for her persecution of English Protestants. Daughter of Henry VIII and his first wife Catherine of Aragon, and half-sister of Elizabeth I, who succeeeded Mary to the English throne.

2. Used specifically of the Roman Catholic church.
Christians whose faith and practice stems from the Reformation movement in the sixteenth century which resulted in new churches being created as an alternative to the Roman Catholic Church.
