A-Z: General definitions: Witness

Definition

1. Someone who testifies in a court of law. 2. In the Bible someone who has seen God's actions and speaks of their experience (Acts 1:8; Acts 5:32). The Greek word for witness is 'martyr', a term used of those Christians who have chosen to die rather than be compelled to renounce faith in Christ or obedience to his teachings.
