Definition

(448-380BC) Aristophanes was an ancient Greek writer who wrote popular comedies. These frequently mocked the issues which tragedy took so seriously - life, death and family honour - and ridiculed important institutions like the law and the government. His plays were sophisticated in their construction, the action moving quickly and seamlessly from scene to scene.
