Definition

In the New Testament book of Revelation, the Church in the Roman city of Laodicea is criticised as being 'lukewarm' (without true spiritual commitment) - an allusion to the fact that the city's erratic water supply meant that the inhabitants could not enjoy both hot and cold water as other Roman cities did (Revelation 3:16).
