Definition
Christian devotional practice in which a verse of the Bible or some aspect of the Christian life is held in prayerful and focused thought, until some deeper aspect of its reality manifests itself. Ignatian meditation is a method prescribed by the Jesuits, using the imagination, through the visualising of episodes in the life of Christ, to reach a deeper level of faith. There are many other forms of meditation besides Christian ones; most, but not all, are religious in nature.
Name originally given to disciples of Jesus by outsiders and gradually adopted by the Early Church.
The complete commitment of oneself to a loved person or thing, and especially to God. The term is also used, in the plural, to mean prayers.
