Definition

King of Ithaca, an island in the Ionian Sea, and famous for his cunning. Odysseus spent ten years travelling before he finally succeeded in reaching his home, the island of Ithaca. Here his wife Penelope, had been warding off suitors for her hand by claiming that she was weaving a shroud for Odysseus' father and would not remarry until it was finished. However, each night she unravelled the previous day's work. On his return Odysseus took his revenge on the suitors but could not settle at home for long.
