Definition
Odysseus loses six companions to the monster Scylla. The Greeks had to sail between a great whirlpool called Charybdis and a monster called Scylla who lived in a cave in a steep cliff. Even though they had been warned by Circe of these dangers, they were so fascinated with watching the force of the whirlpool that Scylla was able to seize six men. The others had to listen to their screams as she ate them.King of Ithaca, an island in the Ionian Sea, and famous for his cunning; the story of his ten year journey home after the Trojan War is the subject of Homer's Odyssey. (Roman name Ulysses.)
