Definition
Terza rima indicates the structure of a rhyming verse form that consists of an interlocking three line scheme. It was first used by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri (see Christina Rossetti > Birth, upbringing and education: More on Dante). The rhyme scheme of a poem written in the form of terza rima runs aba, bcb, cdc, ded.
