Definition
Also called Knights Templar. A member of a Christian military and religious order in the Middle Ages orginally established to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land.
Name originally given to disciples of Jesus by outsiders and gradually adopted by the Early Church.
1. Devout, involved in religious practice
2. Member of a religious order, a monk or nun.
1. Someone who undertakes a journey to a holy place (such as a biblical site or the shrines of the saints) to seek God's help, to give thanks or as an act of penance.
2. A Christian journeying through life towards heaven.
Historically refers to the land of Israel and Palestine, lying between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea, which has holy and religious significance to Jews, Christians and Muslims.
