A-Z: Common sayings from the Bible: Fleshpots of Egypt

Usage

Usually refers to any physical (often sexual) pleasure that is illicit, and the place where such pleasure may be found.

Definition

The flesh pots were vessels for cooking meat; the Israelites hanker after meat in their desert wanderings, and remember this aspect of life in Egypt, rather than the fact that God had saved them from slavery.
