Definition

The Book of Common Prayer uses Miles Coverdale's translation of the Psalms (1539), which mistranslates here. Joseph as imprisoned and abandoned after a false charge. 'Joseph ' whose feet they hurt in the stocks: the iron entered into his soul' (Taken from the Book of Common Prayer, 1662, Psalms 105:18, cf. he was laid in iron KJV).
