Definition
The favourite of Jacob's brothers, who was sold into slavery but ended up becoming a powerful ruler in Egypt
Joseph was the husband of Mary the mother of Jesus. Joseph was visited by an angel to tell him that Mary would give birth to Jesus. He was a carpenter by trade.
In the New Testament Joseph of Arimathea was a wealthy man, and a secret disciple of Jesus. After Jesus had died on the cross he went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body in order to give Jesus a proper burial in a tomb.
