Definition

In one version of this story, Persephone and Aphrodite both loved Adonis and he spent part of the year with each: time with Aphrodite was the spring and summer; time with Persephone the autumn and winter. In another version, only Aphrodite loved him, and used to hunt with him until a wild boar killed him. She decreed that his death should be mourned every year, and made the red anemone spring from his blood.
