Definition
A way of life which manifests holiness through involvement in the everyday world. Leah (Old Testament) and Martha (New Testament) are seen as representing the Active Life. See Contemplative Life.
In the Old Testament Leah was the elder daughter of Laban and the first wife of Jacob. Jacob had wished to marry Laban's younger daughter Rachel but was tricked into marrying Leah first. She bore him six sons and a daughter.
A 'testament' is a covenant or binding agreement and is a term used in the Bible of God's relationship with his people). The sacred writings of Judaism (the Hebrew Bible). These also form the first part of the Christian Bible.
