A-Z: General definitions: Left hand

Definition

In the Bible, as in general human culture, the left hand is generally seen to be weaker than the right. The right hand is often used as a symbol of strength both for human beings and for God (Isaiah 41:10; Psalms 17:7; Psalms 139:10). In the New Testament Jesus is seen as sitting at the 'right hand' of God (Matthew 26:64; Mark 14:62; Acts 7:55-56).
