Definition

Mary Queen of Scots (1542 - 1587), also known as Mary Stuart or Mary I of Scotland, became Queen of Scotland (1542 - 1567) 6 days after her birth and was briefly Queen Consort of France (1559 - 1560). Mary also laid claim to the English throne and was held by Queen Elizabeth I in numerous castles and manor houses before being found guilty of plotting Elizabeth's assassination and executed.
