Definition
(c.955-c.1020). Abbot of Eynsham. Greatest scholar of the English Benedictine revival. Writings include homilies and lives of the saints.
The head of a community of monks.
Homilies are addresses to congregations, usually directly related to the biblical readings being used at the service in which the homily is given.
In the New Testament the term is used of all Christians but gradually came to describe an especially holy person.
