Definition
The season which marks the beginning of the Christian year. It begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day and lasts until Christmas Eve. Advent is used as a time of preparation not only for celebration of the coming of Jesus Christ as a baby at Christmas, but also for his Second Coming as Judge at the end of the world.
Translation
Latin: Adventus, 'coming'Name originally given to disciples of Jesus by outsiders and gradually adopted by the Early Church.
'Mass of Christ', a celebration or feast of the birth of Jesus Christ.
