Definition

In the Old Testament the handsome third son of King David (2 Samuel 14:25) who rebelled against his father. He was murdered by one of David's followers after his long hair became entangled in the branches of a tree, causing David to express deep grief (2 Samuel 18:9; 2 Samuel 18:14; 2 Samuel 18:32-33).

Translation

Hebrew: Absalom, 'father is / of peace'.
