Definition
Warned by Circe, Odysseus knew how dangerous the Sirens were. Before they sailed past their land, he blocked the men's ears with wax so they could not hear them. He had himself tied to the mast, having ordered his men not to release him no matter how much he begged them to do so. In this way, Odysseus became the only person to hear the beauty of the sirens' song without being lured to his death.
