A-Z: General definitions: Patronage
Definition
A system by which support is bestowed by a (usually) wealthy patron in return for loyalty. Also associated with the right to grant a benefice to a member of the clergy
An office / position in the church; the land / house provided to support the priest of a parish, eg. a rectory, vicarage etc.
The collective term for priests and ministers of the church (as opposed to the non-ordained laity).
