Definition

A popular traditional puppet show associated with English seaside resorts, featuring Mr Punch, his wife Judy and other characters, performed by a solo puppeteer inside a small tent.  The show has its roots in the Italian Commedia dell'Arte and was originally intended for an adult audience but developed into a children’s entertainment.
