Definition
The word Utopia derives from the title of Sir Thomas More’s 1516 book about a fictional ideal society on an island in the Atlantic. It is used to describe a world where everyone and everything works together in perfect harmony, an earthly paradise. Utopia’s opposite is dystopia.
A place of beauty and perfection, associated in the Bible and literature with both the Garden of Eden before the Fall, and heaven. Often used as a synonym for heaven.
