A-Z: General definitions: Bathsheba

Definition

The beautiful wife of Uriah the Hittite (2 Samuel 11:2-3), with whom David the king committed adultery after seeing her bathing on a roof (2 Samuel 11:4). When Bathsheba became pregnant, David tried to cover up his sin, eventually having Uriah killed. David later took Bathsheba as his wife. She became the mother of Solomon and played an important role in ensuring he became king after David (1 Kings 1:11-35).
