Definition
Daniel O'Connell, 1775 - 1847, Irish political leader who campaigned for Roman Catholic emancipation and the repeal of the Act of Union which had created the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. See Dubliners text guide, The impact of the past: from the eighteenth century to 1904.
Member of a worldwide Christian church which traces its origins from St. Peter, one of Jesus' original disciples. It has a continuous history from earliest Christianity.
The Act, which came into effect on 1 January 1801, creating the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
