A-Z: General definitions: Prefigure
An image or action which demonstrates a future event before it occurs. Eg. Christians interpret Abraham’s sacrifice of his son Isaac in the Old Testament as prefiguring the sacrifice of Jesus in the New Testament.
In the Old Testament Abraham was called by God to search for the land God promised to him and told he would be the 'father of many nations'
