Definition

The Old Testament book of Psalms contains 150 Hebrew poems or songs, many traditionally attributed to King David, on a variety of themes including praise, lament, pilgrimage, and prayer for God's help and forgiveness. It is the most complete collection of Hebrew poetry and worship material in the Old Testament and a important feature of Christian worship throughout the centuries.
