Definition

Constantin Stanislavsky (Konstantin Stanislavski), 1863 -1938, Russian actor and theatre director.  He was a co-founder of a progressive theatre company called the Moscow Arts Theatre, set up in 1897 to stage realistic theatre performed by actors who were rigorously trained.
