Referred to in Neville Chamberlain's speech following his return from the Munich Conference with Hitler in September 1938.

Definition

The Prayer Books (1552 and 1662) were composed during times of national and international tension in which war was a constant risk if not a reality. The regular prayers ask for God's peace. 'Give peace in our time, O Lord' (Taken from the Book of Common Prayer, 1662, Morning Prayer Versicle).
