Definition

A biblical image used to describe judgement and calamity. Windstorms could sweep into Israel from the southern or eastern deserts, greatly raising the temperature. The whirlwind was used to describe the calamity of God's judgement against Jerusalem (Isaiah 29:6). Also used to describe God's judgement against his enemies (Proverbs 1:27).
