A-Z: General definitions: Helios
Definition
Both the sun and its god. (Roman name, Sol.) The son of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, and brother of Selene (the Moon) and Eos (the Dawn). Each day, he drove his four horse chariot (the sun) from the east, across the sky to the west. The horses of the sun-god are vigorous, whereas the horses of the moon-god are tired because they are weary from having worked all night. Then he sailed on the river of Ocean in a huge golden bowl back to his home in the east. (This bowl was borrowed by Heracles.) Helios chose the island of Rhodes as his own.
