Definition
1. The area of land roughly between the eastern Mediterranean and the River Jordan, which was the historic territory of Israel/Judah, but referred to as Palestine by the time of Roman occupation (63BC onwards).
2. Today, two sections of the above territory, under Arab/Muslim (as opposed to Jewish) control: one bordering the Mediterranean and Egyptian border (known as the Gaza strip); the other to the left of the River Jordan (known as the West Bank).
The river Jordan flows from above Lake Tiberius (the Sea of Galilee) down to the Dead Sea. John the Baptist baptised Jesus in the river Jordan.
The Old Testament frequently refers to Israel as the Promised Land allocated to God's children. Prophecies refer to it as his chosen nation and the one out of which the Messiah would come.
1. The fourth son of Jacob. 2. One of the twelve tribes of Israel. 3. The kingdom which covered the southern area of Palestine.
Relating to the city or empire of ancient Rome or its people.
1) In the Bible a member of the Hebrew race
2) Someone who belongs to the Jewish faith which believes in one God and the importance of Jewish Law.
An area of land, bordering modern day Israel and Egypt, which is currently under Palestinian control.
An area so called because it is on the west bank of the River Jordan. It is claimed by the Palestinians but has been under Israeli control since 1967.
