Definition
Spanish Armada - a fleet of ships, sent by Philip II of Spain to transport an invasion army to England in 1588 to overthrow Elizabeth I and Protestantism. The Armada was scattered by the English fleet off the coast of Calais, then largely destroyed by storms during its escape around the Scottish and Irish coasts.
King of Spain from 1556-1598 and of Portugal from 1581-1598.
The last Tudor monarch, Queen of England from 1558 – 1603
Christians whose faith and practice stems from the Reformation movement in the sixteenth century which resulted in new churches being created as an alternative to the Roman Catholic Church.
