Definition

Gospel - Literally 'good news' - used of the message preached by Jesus recorded in the New Testament (John 20:30; Romans 1:16; Galatians 2:5). 1. The central message of the Christian faith 2. Title given to the four New Testament books which describe the life of Jesus Christ i.e. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. 3. Reading from one of the Gospels used in Holy Communion or Mass. 4. Expression used to describe something regarded as utterly true.
