Definition

A town west of the River Jordan, referred to in the Old Testament: conquered by Joshua Joshua 2:1-24 and became home to many prophets. In the New Testament the healing of the blind man (Mark 10:46-52) and the encounter between Jesus and Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10) took place in Jericho. In Jesus' parable, the Good Samaritan travelled along the road from Jerusalem to Jericho.
