A-Z: General definitions: Barnabas

Definition

A Levite from Cyprus, named Joseph (Joses) before the disciples of Jesus called him Barnabas (Acts 4:36-37). He sold his property and gave the proceeds to the Jerusalem church, to whom he introduced Saul of Tarsus (Acts 9:26-27). He went on Paul's first missionary journey. They disagreed and parted company, however, over whether to take John Mark with them on their second missionary journey (Acts 15:36-41).
