A-Z: General definitions: Drama
Definition
That part or genre of literature that deals with the acting out in performance of literary texts. These texts therefore involve structures of dialogue and stage instructions; divisions into acts and/or scenes; and conflict between characters. The main divisions of drama are comedy, tragedy, history and satire. Mixed divisions or genres are possible such as tragi-comedy, satiric comedy and so on. Drama is intimately connected to the theatre, though drama texts may be read as well as acted out on stage.
