Definition

Daughter of Zeus and Leda who was famed for her beauty; wife of Menelaus, king of Sparta; she was abducted by Paris and taken back to Troy, which led to the Greeks' siege of Troy. Paris (a prince of Troy) chose Aphrodite as 'the fairest', since she had bribed him by offering him the love of the most beautiful woman in the world. Unfortunately that woman was Helen, who was already married to Menelaus, King of Sparta. Paris visited Sparta, abducted Helen and took her back to Troy.
