Definition
A Jewish teacher who would lead synagogue worship and teach scripture, as well as (in Jesus' day) educate boys in the community.

2) Someone who belongs to the Jewish faith which believes in one God and the importance of Jewish Law.

Sacred writings. The New Testament uses the term to refer to the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). In time, the Christian Church recognised the Old and New Testaments as both containing God's authoritive written word.
The name given to the man believed by Christians to be the Son of God. Also given the title Christ, meaning 'anointed one' or Messiah. His life is recorded most fully in the Four Gospels.
