Definition
Heroine of the Old Testament Book of Ruth. A young widow from outside Israel who showed great kindness and devotion to her Israelite mother-in-law. She was the great-grandmother of King David and appears in the genealogy of Jesus.

The Old Testament frequently refers to Israel as the Promised Land allocated to God's children. Prophecies refer to it as his chosen nation and the one out of which the Messiah would come.
