Definition
The service book used by Roman Catholics which contains the Divine Office. The Divine Office is a book used by Catholics during services that gives the prayers for the day. It is especially used during the celebration of Mass, where participants might recite Psalms or other relevant sections of scripture.

2. Used specifically of the Roman Catholic church.

Essentially the hymn book of the Jerusalem temple, expressing the whole range of human emotion, from dark depression to exuberant joy; many attributed to David.
